Breaking News

New Properties and New Projects

With the end of the year just around the corner, one might expect things to be winding down. Not the case for HTI, as we continue to rollout systems at an enviable pace. We have had consultants busy all around South Africa as well as across the borders.

We have recently installed eRes® at a number of new properties and groups. With the certification of the Medallion PMS Interface with eRes®, Karkloof Spa has installed eRes® for all the web and distribution opportunities and Gooderson Leisure is also slated to go live with eRes® in November. Kingfisher Resorts has also come on board with eRes® this month, but they will be using the OXI Interface to connect with the Opera PMS at their properties.

The KZN Wildlife rollout continues until just before the December break, with four of their busiest resorts going live with Apex and PlusPoint, prior to eRes® and GroupView being installed at Head Office in the new year. The installation of Apex and PlusPoint at the balance of the KZN Wildlife properties will continue throughout 2010.

It seems with the countdown to World Cup, there are new properties springing up almost daily, some as part of established brands and groups, and many as independents. We're very pleased to say that many of them have found their software solutions with HTI.

Humour for the day

A fellow bought a new Mercedes and was out on the interstate for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair and he decided to open her up.

As the needle jumped up to 80 mph, he suddenly saw flashing red and blue lights behind him. "There's no way they can catch a Mercedes," he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 90, 100...

Then the reality of the situation hit him. "What am I doing?" he thought and pulled over. The cop came up to him, took his license without a word and examined it and the car. "It's been a long day, this is the end of my shift and it's Friday the 13th. I don't feel like more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go."

The guy thinks for a second and says, "Last week my wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you were trying to give her back!"

"Have a nice weekend," said the officer...

APEX Property Management

1.) A new feature in Apex is that the application will now start warning the operator when the license is about to expire. The warning will begin 10 days before product expiration...

In conjunction with the 'expiration warning', Apex now has the ability to validate the license date during the End of Day procedure. If the license has been extended it will automatically update the license expiry date...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note: The development department for Apex and PlusPoint will be closed until the 13th January 2010. This will mean that all development requests will only be completed in the New Year, as we are focusing our attention on upgrading all of our customers during the holiday period to ensure that the applications run smoothly during this time. We appreciate your understanding in this regard.

HTI gets tactical...

Recently the support team went to a local paintball circuit to decide once and for all - who is the master blaster?

Partners were included as well, which meant it was bound to get heated... The results were in favour of the girls (don't forget they get similar protective wear to the L.A Bomb Squad), as the guys tried to emulate 'Knights in shining armour'... looks more like 'Knights in swollen shiners' to me?

Customer Chronicles

Great Reviews for the eRes® User Group

There was a great turnout for our eRes® User Meeting in September and everyone in attendance agreed that it was a success. After welcome drinks, Andre Richards, the architect of eRes® and the MD of the eRes® Development Group stepped everyone through new functionality of the latest release of eRes®. He then discussed future development already committed to as part of the eRes® Road Map for the next few releases of the product, (Click here) to view highlights of the presentation.

We also enjoyed presentations from Expedia, one of the many distribution partners available through eRes® and TravelBuy, one of our preferred Payment Gateway solutions for processing payments on eRes® and through the IBE. Africado.com also gave us a brief presentation on their new and impressive portal site that is up and running and should be a valued addition to all eRes® user's portfolio of distribution channels.

After the presentations, everyone enjoyed refreshments as they caught up with old friends and colleagues, and perhaps a bit of industry skinner!

Technical Review

HTI Technical releases iTrack

Our technical team has spent the last couple of months consolidating all three of our supporting applications into a unified system by developing our own web based call centre system, called iTrack. Our Licensing, Call Logging and Scheduling systems can now be found in iTrack and we will be expanding on the functionality in the next couple of months.

For HTI and eRes® customers we plan to incorporate a user friendly, easy to use front end where you will be able to view your call history, follow up on current calls, perhaps even log your own calls but it could also give you the opportunity to participate in product specific forums, blogs and user group meetings.

We will keep you updated on our progress and if you have any suggestions from a customer point of view please do not hesitate to email us!

Closing Remarks

Best-in-Class or Best-of-Breed?

These questions were raised in a recent article by Erik Munoz (SoftBrands, Asia Pacific, Hospitality Solutions) published on his 'LinkedIn Group' - Hotel Online Distribution & Revenue Management

"What is your view in terms of hotel market segmentation
and technology solutions?"

•No two hotels are alike, so is it fair to argue that no two
         hospitality solutions are alike?

•Is there a single revenue management solution that addresses the
requirements and budget for small hotels (under 100 rooms), large
         mega-resorts (1,000+ rooms) or enterprise-wide multi-national
         chain brands?

        •How about channel management?
−Does one solution fit all hotel operating environments?
−Or a web booking engine? Or a GDS management product?

•As an hotelier, what is your view?

•As a technology solution vendor, what is your view?

•Or if you are an interested observer from another industry,
         what is your view?

James Montgomery (MD, HTI (Pty) Ltd) commented on Erik's article...

The days of a single vendor, such as IBM, providing a full turnkey solution, which included CPU, hardware, terminals, network, printers, operating system, application program and support services has long gone except for very large (VL) enterprises.

Microsoft broke this single vendor perspective with a better OS for small computing - which then became multi computing with LANs (Novell) and wide area processing with CISCO etc..

Then began the Web; and a whole raft of exciting applications, available as and when required.

In hospitality the interconnectivity between applications is a major factor. *HTNG, *HEDNA and OpenTravel (OTA) have all assisted with creating standards that allow the best of breed (BOB) product to interoperate with other best of breed applications.

The strategy of eRes is absolute neutrality as far as *PMS, *RMS, *GDS, *IDS, *OTA, *IBE and *ITO are concerned.

We have very good working relationships with all these vendors (partners) because we concentrate on our BOB application which is a true multi-property CRS, with integrated centralised rates and channel management for hotel and lodge chains.

We believe that if you centralise (aggregate) you can synchronise (orchestrate).

Instead of many individual instruments (properties) you become one single harmonised orchestra (chain). Your audiences (channels) see and hear a single more effective output with greater clarity, value and pleasure.
