A little ode to Teacher's...
A teacher was having trouble teaching arithmetic to one little boy. So she said, "If you reached in your right pocket and found a nickel, and then you reached in your left pocket and found another one, what would you have?" The boy replied... "Someone else's pants".
The child comes home from his first day at school.
Mother asks, "What did you learn today?"
The child replies, "Not enough. I have to go back tomorrow."
The teacher is droning away in the classroom when he notices a student sleeping way up in the back row. The teacher shouts to the sleeping student's neighbour, "Hey wake that student up!" The neighbour yells back, "You put him to sleep, you wake him up!"

New Staff
The Support and Installation team at HTI continues to grow. Our most recent additions to the team are Andile Thomson, Leigh Landsberg in the support centre and Rynhardt Ferreira in the technical department.
Support Team - Andile comes to us with a combination of strong hospitality operations experience, as well as training and IT experience. Having completed his in-house training, Andile is already taking calls and working on site.

Leigh is currently in training, honing her Apex and PlusPoint skills. She joins the team as an experienced eRes® user. Having worked in travel and reservations for some time, she most recently rounded her experience by working at a private game lodge.

Leigh Landsberg - Support Consultant
Technical Department - Rynhardt joined us just after the New Year, and although he came to us without any hospitality experience, he has taken to the HTI products like the proverbial duck-to-water. He has been very busy liaising with users and interface and distribution partners directly, while concurrently implementing scheduled upgrades.

Account Manager - Also new on the Support side is that Danny has moved across from heading up the Support and Installation Team to Account Management. No longer will Danny be handling first line support issues; he will now be focusing on Account Management and Customer Relations.

eRes Development - New Appointments
On the eRes® side we also have three new staff members, with Andre Burger and Phillip van Heerden joining the team in 2010. Andre joins us as a 'Software Tester', and he will be responsible for ensuring that the upgrades you receive have passed the Quality Assurance process. He brings with him years of experience in hospitality management, as well as a sound knowledge of the IT industry.
Phillip van Heerden joined our team in the capacity of Documentation and Trainer, with both teaching experience and extensive IT knowledge. Karabo Hlongwane has also very recently joined the development team.
You may all remember Stanton Francis, a technical consultant for HTI from 2007until 2009... We are pleased to announce that Stanton has now joined the eRes® team as a junior software developer. They are all a welcome addition to the eRes® team.

HTI's 'QuickStep Training Centre' in Rivonia

Course's Being Offered - Starting May 2010
HTI will be offering an array of relevant courses this year, ranging from basic training sessions on specific aspects of the products to more advanced industry standards training to assist with the development of your overall operations, strategy and staff skills training.

Apex Net Reports
In addition to the 'Interactive' enhancement, we have also released 'Apex NetReports', a remotely accesible module that provides you with an online method to track and download vital operational and management reports.
The Apex EOD will export all the EOD reports into a .pdf format. These reports are uploaded to a central server. Your head office can now retrieve these reports from anywhere as long as the user has internet connection. How neat is that?

Growing Together - Status Hotels and HTI
Status Hotels has been using eRes® for their central reservations since their inception and have now gathered together a nice portfolio of properties. As the group continues to expand, we see constant additions to their collection of hotels.
Most recently Welgelegen Manor has joined the Status group and will be installing Apex with its interface to eRes®. We congratulate Status on their newest addition and welcome Welgelegen Manor to our distinguished list of Apex users.
We also look forward to more properties coming online with Status Hotels and eRes® in the near future.

Improve your Channel and Revenue Management Strategy with eRes® We are finding that with the many enquiries we receive from around the globe there is still a narrow expectation of requirement in each case.
For example, a small hotel chain in Asia describes their requirements as 'simply a WBE for our three properties'. This is not a silly requirement, but when we suggest that, with the right product decision they can have some or all of the following:
• Rates Management
• Yield Management
• Channel Management
• GDS
• Central Reservations (CRS)
• OTA direct
• Web Booking Engine (WBE)
...for a similar cost; they cannot easily visualize the possibilities!
With the eRes® engine it does not matter if you only 'need' one option for the moment. What is important is that your inventory and rates become centrally available and LIVE on a web platform for extending your reach and management capability when you are ready.
The inventory is LIVE and can be instantly made available on many high performing 'shelves'.
Start with WBE or CRS. Whichever you do, you need to orchestrate your rates strategy and your channel strategy.
CREATIVE RATES POLICY
If you have in the past limited your creative pricing to simple LOS (length of stay) rules in certain periods of the year. Start with new meaningful revenue and occupancy improving marketing strategies.
1.) If your weak periods are Friday through Sunday, introduce rates
available ONLY on a Specific Day of Arrival (Friday), with a
minimum of 2 nights.
2.) To encourage late bookings of unused inventory create rates that
are permitted only through 'opaque' channels such as an
MT Beds* or lastminute.com*...
(discounted by 45% but ONLY within 48 hours of arrival).
*These websites specialize in this market of filling beds
at the last minute.
3.) Introduce Best Available Rate policies whilst negotiating better
and more tightly focused corporate and STO Rates.
4.) Use a Linked Rate principle allowing the system to generate rates
based on individual rules and restrictions for each rate,
at each property.
This can all be managed on one central system and update
automatically to each property (direct to PMS).
EXTEND YOUR DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS
1.) eRes® has seamlessly integrated with many inbound tour operators.
Once you have the eRes® engine you can negotiate direct connections
and rates with these companies.
2.) Connect directly with the large global on-line travel agencies such as
Expedia, Booking.com, In1 Solutions, and dozens more.
